On 5th August, twenty talented singers of all ages in Singapore came head to head to fight for the champion title at the Popsical Karaoke Sing Off 2018. People from all nationalities, races and faith was welcomed into the competition, and the theme of the competition for this year was "Harmony in Diversity".
The competition was hosted by the hilarious and lovable Suhaimi Yusof. The judges were influential figures of the music industry, including Qiu Feng Ze, a Singapore-born singer, Iskandar Ismail, winner of SG Mania, Shabir Tabare Alam, multi-talented music composer and record producer, and Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Popsical Karaoke, Faruq Marican.
Hundreds of people gathered at Our Tampines Hub to watch this head to head battle. The event also had a fun giveaway by where random audience members were invited on stage for advance off and were presented with cool X-Mini goodies. Judge Qiu Feng Ze and previous PKSO champion Fairus Adam also joined the stage for a small performance.
This is the second year in a row that the Popsical Karaoke Sing Off 2018 has been organized and this year, it has attracted 192 contestants of various nationalities and with ages ranging from 11 to 55 years.
Champion of Popsical Karaoke Sing Off 2018, Syah Riszuan, only 13 years old, blew everyone away with his take on "If I ain't got you" by Alicia Keys. He took home three thousand dollars, a Popsical bundle with a year of premium membership and the champion trophy. First runner-up was a dual act, Owen Lai & Mohamed Amirul. The second runner-up was won by a duo the name of Azkalelo, consisting of Nurul Iman and Afrah Athasha.
The sing off ended with a moving performance, where all the competitors were called on stage to sing along to 'Home' by Kit Chan. The audience were invited to join by singing along to the song. All of Our Tampines Hub joined in the sing along from all tiers of the floors surrounding the stage.
