Popsical wishes all Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

Cookies and sweets treats are a must for the Hari Raya season. To celebrate Hari Raya is to relish the soft pineapple tarts and fragrant kuih makmur. 1. Selamat Hari Raya – Saloma

Selamat Hari Raya is an all-time classic Raya song that must be on the list. It is a song that accurately captures the festivity of the Raya season, as Muslims commemorate the end of Ramadan and welcome the kuih (cakes) they can finally binge on during this season.

2. Balik Kampung – Sudirman

Another essential Raya song, Balik Kampung aptly depicts the emotions of a man (or woman) as he journeys home, aware that he will soon be able to see the faces of his loved ones. This song is for those who have to embark on long journeys home for the Raya season!

3. Dendang Perantau – P. Ramlee

This song is for those who are unable to be back at home with their family during Hari Raya. Sung by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee, it surely resonates with those who constantly think of their loved ones during the festive season.

4. Dari Jauh Ku Pohon Maaf – Sudirman

Similar to Dendang Perantau, Dari Jauh Ku Pohon Maaf is dedicated to those who are unable to go home during Hari Raya due to work commitment.

5. Selamat Hari Raya – Fazidah Joned

This song reminds Muslims to forgive, as they are encouraged to on the first day of Hari Raya. Because to forgive is the true way to getting rid of the sorrows in ourselves.

6. Suasana Hari Raya – Sharifah Aini

A song about how one welcomes their guests during the Hari Raya season, its simplicity and Sharifah Aini’s melodic voice surely makes everyone in the room want to sing and dance.

7. Selamat Berhari Raya – Rahimah Rahim

Rahimah Rahim’s song focuses on the family. It reminds us to never forget those who have passed on and to treasure those who are still by our side.

8. Menjelang Hari Raya – Jatt

Who doesn’t know this song? It practically greets you at the doorstep of your relatives! This joyous song speaks the authentic Hari Raya experience one has – new baju kurung, all the kuih-muihs served and the meaningful gatherings.

9. Lebaran – Effa Rizan

If there’s one biggest takeaway on Hari Raya, it is to cleanse the soul, seek forgiveness and give appreciation to all that has been given – health, family, food and happiness. Effa Rizan’s Lebaran is the typical Hari Raya song everyone knows the lyrics to!

10. Cahaya Aidilfitri – Black Dog Bone

With its majestic instrumentals that fuels the festive mood – albeit in the more emotional tone with a spoonful of sadness – Cahaya Aidilfitri is guaranteed to overwhelm one with sorrow as it reminds us to think about our dearest beloveds who have passed on. Though Hari Raya is a time to be joyous, the song seeks to remind us of the less fortunate.

11. Suasana Riang Di Hari Raya – Junainah M. Amin

If you’d like to know how Hari Raya is celebrated in a typical household, Junainah’s song Suasana Riang Di Hari Raya packs it all for you! From getting ready, to visiting all relatives, to seeking forgiveness.

12. People Got to be Free – The Rascals

This is for non-Muslims who also wish to revel in the Hari Raya spirit of sharing, tolerance and understanding. Released in the late 1960s, People Got to be Free is a musically buoyant but earnest appeal for tolerance and freedom.

Time is running out! Get ready your microphones for a weight gain-free way to celebrate Hari Raya!
